SCOTT GATTY - Oil

It has taken me nearly a lifetime to realize that creating art, like life, is more of a journey than a destination.

I am a naturalist, gardener and painter with an education in science.

Growing up surrounded by the forests of Pennsylvania, [literally, {William} Penn's Woods], I developed a deep respect for plant life, from ancient trees to native shrubs and wildflowers.

Anything with a sense of history, especially architecture, also fascinates me.

It has taken me nearly a lifetime to realize that creating art, like life, is more of a journey than a destination.

A recurring theme in art, and in particular the Dutch Golden Age, one of my favorite periods in art history, is the transience of all things in life including life itself.

My subject matter includes fleeting experiences and things, from seasonal cloud formations, to summer's flowers and shifting light effects on the landscape and historic buildings.

This is a theme I will continue to explore as my Journey Through Art continues.
